*Students who successfully complete the History & Social Sciences Secondary Teacher Education Program will earn an Illinois Professional Educator License for grades 9-12 in Social Sciences: History.

*Students must be admitted to the educator licensure program in order to enroll in required professional education courses and clinical experiences.

*Students must meet minimum GPA requirements in order to be eligible for admission to the program.

*Students may earn additional social science high school endorsements by completing at least 12 hours in another social science discipline OR passing the content test in that discipline.

*All students pursuing licensure are required to meet with the licensure program advisor in the Department of history each Semester and are strongly encouraged to select their pathway courses in consultation with that advisor.

*Students pursuing history & social sciences licensure must have a declared major in history or another social science subject. 

*All courses required for licensure must be passed with a grade of "C" of higher. *Of the seven required upper-level (300/400) HIST classes required for the History major, one must be taken in each of the three groups (A, B & C) and two must be 400-level courses.

*In addition to major requirements, students are required to complete additional coursework in the other social sciences. Students are strongly encouraged to select their general education courses in consultation with educator licensure program advisors to minimize program completion time.

Placement exam scores and previous completion of coursework may change the plan. The plan should not be used in place of regular academic advising appointments.
