Application Instructions:
Applicants must fill out the entire application in one sitting with the exception of the two recommendations. One recommendation must come from an NIU faculty or staff member.
After you submit your application, you will be given a unique code. The recommenders will need this code and your student Z-ID number to successfully submit their recommendation. Please contact your recommenders as early as possible!
The application includes several sections which ask for student biographical information; awards, honors, or achievements; community service; extracurricular and leadership involvement; employment experience; and hobbies or special interests.
There is a 45 minute time limit per page. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to prepare their essay answers in a word processing program (i.e. MSWord, etc.) first and then copy and paste them into the application.
The three essay questions you should be prepared to answer are (No more than 500 words per question):
Essay questions will be evaluated for content and grammar, so proofread carefully!
In addition, the Scholarship Committee requires applicants who have pending criminal charges or have been convicted of a crime to disclose this information as a mandatory step in the application process. Also, if an applicant has been expelled or dismissed from an educational institution for disciplinary reasons, an accurate and complete explanation of the circumstances is required. Disclosure of this information will not automatically bar an award of the Forward, Together Forward Scholarship, but does require review and evaluation. Falsification of information may result in a rescission or withdrawal of an award.
