Interesting in giving your time to the LGBT community? Volunteer with us!
Volunteering at the center is a great way to get to know the campus better and to connect with other students with similar interests. Through your volunteer work, you will have the opportunity to help make NIU a safer, more inclusive campus for LGBTQ and all students. As a volunteer, there are many opportunities for leadership development and to acquire experience and skills to build your resume.
What will I do as a volunteer?
The list is long and varied! Your activities will likely change from week-to-week, but tasks include: updating resources and bulletin boards around the center, flyering for upcoming events, and general office work. Also, we welcome your ideas. If you have a project in mind or if there is something you wish to see the resource center involved with, we would be happy to work with you to see it through!
How much time do I need to devote?
It’s up to you! Most of our volunteers spend between two and four hours a week here. Because our volunteers play a significant role in helping us promote programs and keeping the center running smoothly, we ask that you make a semester-long commitment and be consistent with your hours.
How do I sign up?
You can download our Volunteer Program application in the column to the right. Email the completed form to firstname.lastname@example.org or drop it off at the LGBT Resource Center on the 7th floor of the Holmes Student Center.
