Commission Structure

Commission Officers

The commission annually elects a chair, vice chair, and committee chairs.  The office assistant for the LGBT Resource Center acts as secretary for the commission.

Chair:  serves as official representative of the commission, develops agenda for and facilitates commission meetings, serves as ex officio member of all committees

Vice Chair:  serves as chair in the event of the chair’s absence, serves as chair of the Eychaner Award selection committee

Secretary:  records and distributes minutes of commission meetings

Standing Committees and University Committee Assignments

PCSOGI Standing Committees

Each member of the commission is asked to serve on at least one committee.  The committees meet as needed.

Academic Committee
  • Work in conjunction with the LGBT Studies Program Executive Committee
  • Provide a connection between the Commission and the Studies Program so that the Commission can be kept informed of the needs of the Studies Program and can provide appropriate support and assistance in facilitating the development of the Program.
Campus Services Committee
  • Work in conjunction with the LGBT Resource Center to assess, monitor, and address needs of LGBT individuals on campus and the adequacy of campus services and/or policies in meeting those needs.
Programming Committee
  • Work in conjunction with the LGBT Resource Center to schedule, plan, promote, implement, and evaluate campus programs targeted toward the LGBT population and/or designed to educate the broader campus community about LGBT topics, including annual events sponsored by PCSOGI such as:
    • Rainbow Ice Cream Social (August, during Welcome Days)
    • Fall Reception (September or October)
    • Ally Awards Reception (early April, cosponsored with LGBT Resource Center and LGBT Studies Program)
    • Eychaner Award Dinner (late April, cosponsored with Prism and planned with Prism and LGBT Resource Center)
Personnel Committee
  • Monitor personnel policies in areas such as employee recruitment, hiring, promotion, tenure, nondiscrimination, provision of benefits, etc. to assess the adequacy of such policies in addressing the needs of LGBT employees, and work with appropriate university offices and committees to revise policies as needed for LGBT inclusion.
Finance Committee
  • Develop and/or revise appropriate guidelines for consideration of funding requests for programming and travel/conference support and present proposed guidelines to PCSOGI for approval.
  • Publicize availability of funds for programming and travel/conference support.
  • Consider funding requests submitted to PCSOGI for programming and travel/conference support.
  • Track the amount of funds dispersed from the programming and travel lines of the PCSOGI budget, and report the status of these line items to PCSOGI at monthly meetings.
Eychaner Award Selection Committee
  • Review nominations for the annual Eychaner Award and select recipients.

University Committee Assignments

As described in the Committees of the University handbook, Presidential Commissions appoint representatives to serve on affiliated university committees, including:

  • Affirmative Action and Diversity Resources Advisory Committee
  • Unity in Diversity Steering Committee

Other Committees

  • A representative from the Commission serves on the Joseph Harry Endowed Scholarship Committee, administered by the LGBT Resource Center.
