The Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (PCSOGI) is the primary channel by which advice is given to the president of NIU on issues and concerns affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals at the university.
PCSOGI is a university-wide commission of students, faculty, and staff that makes recommendations on actions needed in areas including academic programs, student services, workplace matters, university policies, and the general campus environment.
Acting on behalf of the entire university community, PCSOGI monitors issues relevant to sexual orientation and gender identity, and collaborates with individuals and departments throughout the university to assure equitable treatment of all students, faculty, and staff regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
PCSOGI is one of our four standing commissions that advise the university president on the needs and concerns of underrepresented and underserved populations.
NIU is recognized as one of the 100 best campuses for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) students in the nation by the Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students.
