Comments on LGBTQ Life at NIU:

My favorite LGBTQ thing at NIU is … Everyone loves going to the Rainbow Ice Cream Social  at the beginning of the year to talk about summer and meet  new people.  At the end of the year, I feel an LGBTQ person shouldn't miss the Eychaner Awards dinner, where we celebrate accomplishments and remember the history of our community.  The LGBT Studies classes have definitely educated me about LGBTQ subjects.

If I had three words to describe the campus environment for LGBTQ students I would say … accepting, inspiring, and eye opening.

NIU is a good school for LGBTQ students because … through our Speakers Bureau, we can be a part of educating other students about LGBT identity and issues.

The LGBT Resource Center offers … a safe haven where I can hang out, read LGBT books and magazines, watch LGBT movies, use the internet to find queer resources online, and talk to someone if I have any concerns.

My experience as an LGBTQ student at NIU has been … I am out on campus.  Most people know that I identify as bisexual.  Most people accept me for me, and that's enough.  I never thought I would think of DeKalb as my home, but the support of other LGBTQ students and peers has given me a new family here.
