Future Plans: I plan on working for a couple of years in a community-based support organization (e.g. Ben Gordon, Safe Passage, Hope Haven, etc…), before pursuing a Masters degree in Counseling. My dream job would be to become a counselor for Howard Brown, a Chicago-based organization focused on the provision of healthcare and wellness programs for LGBT individuals.
My favorite LGBTQ thing at NIU is … the Prism dances. It’s the one event that EVERYONE attends, and is an opportunity to see ALL of my LGBTQ friends!
My involvement on campus has helped me … become more aware of LGBT issues and how I can make a difference. NIU’s liberal environment inspires me to see how I can make the world a better place.
NIU is a good school for LGBTQ students because … it’s so supportive! The Resource Center and other resources on campus have helped me through so much, and have helped me grow into the person I am today.
The LGBT Resource Center has helped me in so many ways. If I need a supportive person to listen, if I need advice or information, their collective knowledge and experience has always been beneficial.
My experience as an LGBTQ student at NIU has been … great! I can’t imagine having gone anywhere else. All of my experiences here have given me the perspective I’m grateful to have today.
My advice to other LGBTQ students would be … to check out the resources that NIU offers. If there’s something the LGBT Resource Center isn’t equipped to help with, they can be invaluable in helping you find what you need.
