My favorite LGBTQ thing at NIU is … A favorite NIU memory for me is being part of the Ally Program. I was so proud to hang my Ally sign in my office as a graduate assistant. The dances and other events were just icing on the cake!
NIU is a good school for LGBTQ students because … NIU was gay-friendly before it was cool to be accepting. Many people at NIU have devoted themselves to creating a great learning and living environment on campus for LGBTQ students. They have the Ally Program, the LGBT studies curriculum, and the Resource Center. They've succeeded in what they set out to do!
The LGBT Resource Center offers … a welcoming place to connect, talk and hang out. It offers a sense of community.
The LGBT Resource Center has helped me by … being part of helping establish the Resource Center was one of the biggest learning processes in my life. It taught me about the organization, dedication and work that goes into creating the center. It made me appreciate it that much more.
My experience as an LGBTQ student at NIU has been … amazing! I truly felt I was a part of something bigger - a community. My time at NIU was some of the best years of my life! I'd love to go back!
My advice to current LGBTQ students would be … Don't hesitate! NIU offers everything you need to succeed...and more!
