My favorite LGBTQ thing at NIU is I love the Resource Center! It's the "LGBT Home Base" for us all. If I need information, books or educational materials for class, if I want to get updated on LGBT events, if I need a comfortable and quiet area to relax and study, or people who I feel safe with talking to, it's all there at the Resource Center!
My involvement on campus has helped me to truly understand that I can do anything that I want to do. By just choosing to become involved in various organizations that I've taken an interest in or have always wanted to learn more about, I realize that I can be a part of practically whatever I wish to be a part of.
NIU is a good school for LGBTQ students because The combination of the LGBT Resource Center and the LGBT student group Prism. Prism is one of the most actively involved student organizations on campus, while the Resource Center is very active in serving the NIU community. Having both a student group to get involved with, and a center that I can utilize for many various needs provides me with a safe, educational and very pleasant environment on and around campus.
The LGBT Resource Center offers safety, educational information, a place to settle personal concerns relating to LGBT issues, activities, campus networking
The LGBT Resource Center has helped me by The Resource Center is the place where I have met the best of my friends. Its a great place to wind down and get work done, and a place to go if I have a break in my day and want to socialize.
My experience as an LGBTQ student at NIU has been I feel so welcomed! There are an extensive number of events that cater to many different areas of interest, and people who are willing to help you out in practically any way that they can.
My advice to other LGBTQ students would be Don't feel that you are alone! The Resource Center is an excellent starting point to get connected with what the university can offer you, and to meet people just like yourself.
