NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY AND DEKALB
With approximately 25,000 students, Northern Illinois University offers more than sixty undergraduate and graduate fields of study, in addition to a college of law.
The city of DeKalb has a population of 42,579 and is located just 65 miles west of Chicago's Loop. The rapidly expanding "high tech corridor" and the professional, cultural and recreational advantages of Chicago, the nation's third largest city, are readily accessible via I-88 and I-90. O'Hare International Airport is within a one-hour drive of DeKalb. Thus, DeKalb offers the advantages of ease in daily living associated with a medium-sized town, while at the same time providing the advantages of a nearby major urban center.
NIU is committed to the appreciation and support of diversity through the provision of services for people of diverse cultures, ages, sexual identities, etc. NIU also supports university wide programming to address the awareness and interests of a multicultural campus, such as a year long Unity Through Diversity program, Black Heritage Month, Gay Awareness Week, Hispanic Month, and Women's History Month.
