Participants needed for a breastfeeding awareness discussion.

What is the purpose of this study? To discuss the factors that influence a person’s breastfeeding awareness level.

Help human milk feeding research and earn $20 for your time!

  • What will I do? You will be asked questions in a focus group setting held on the NIU campus to discuss what influences breastfeeding awareness.
  • How long will the study take? Participating in this focus group will take about 45 minutes.
  • Benefits: The information collected will serve as an initial discussion and examination of the measurement tool. Once the tool is created, it will enable the researcher and others in lactation research to see how prior breastfeeding exposure can impact research.
  • Risks: Being a part of the focus group is completely voluntary. No identifying information is collected.

If you are interested in participating, sign up for one of the focus groups. If you would like more information, please email Stephanie Uhr, Ph.D. at suhr@niu.edu.

It's Time to Waive or Enroll in Our Student Insurance Program.

Students taking 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed $1,378.00 for student health insurance for fall 2024. You can find more information regarding the plan on our website.

If you have comparable insurance and have not yet canceled the plan, the United Healthcare Student Resources is now open until Sept. 30, 2024.  This is an online process only. Once you complete the waiver, and it’s accepted the charge for insurance will be removed from your student account.

The waiver deadline is firm, therefore if you do not waive the student health insurance by Sept. 30, you will be enrolled for semester coverage under the plan, and no reimbursements will be given. Question can be emailed to studentinsurance@niu.edu.

Students taking less than 9 credit hours are not automatically enrolled in our student health insurance program. However, if eligible, you do have the opportunity to voluntarily enroll for coverage. The fall open enrollment period for our optional dental, vision, teledoc and health insurance plans administered by Benefit Partners Technology is open until Oct. 31, 2024. Learn more about enrolling in our student health insurance program.

Tips from Fellow Huskies

Alyssa Navarro

"The Latino Resource Center is definitely the resource that made me feel the most supported. For my first two years here at NIU, I lived on the Latinx Community Floor. I loved it so much that I returned for a third year, but this time as the community advisor for the floor. Since living on the floor, I have picked up a minor (Latino and Latin American Studies), joined an honor society (Adela de la Torre Honor Society) and joined a sorority (Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.)."

Lindsay Vreeland

"Become a part of the community! There are many student groups and activities, as well as cultural centers and academic programs, where you can find people with interests and identities that match your own or provide opportunities to learn more about others."
