Encourage your student to enroll in UNIV 301 if they haven't yet.
|
As someone who cares about their Huskie, you know it's never too early for your student to get a jump on developing their career. UNIV 301: Braven Leadership and Career Accelerator will help them help them gain the skills, networks, experience and confidence to land a strong job or internship.
This three-credit elective course is unique in that it is taught by leadership coaches currently working in a variety of industries.
Benefits of the course include:
-
Small class size. Students will be on a team with five to eight other Huskies from a variety of majors.
-
Completely online and once-a-week. They can enroll in a class that meets online 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
-
Career exploration and preparation. If they already know what they want to do after they graduate, they'll discover the steps to take to get there. If they're a little less sure, they'll be able to explore what's possible. They'll also develop a professional portfolio.
-
Hands-on learning with leading companies. They'll work with their teammates on creating solutions for real companies and real clients.
-
Long-lasting support. Once they complete the Braven Accelerator course, they will be paired with a mentor who will continue to support them through their academic and professional career planning.

In case you haven't yet heard the news, the launch date for the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, has been pushed from Oct. 1 until sometime in December.
With a revamp of the FAFSA experience underway, a specific go-live date has yet to be announced. More information can be found at: studentaid.gov/decemberfafsa.
The changes should create a smoother application process for your family.
These include:
-
Expanded eligibility for federal student aid.
-
A streamlined application process.
Please keep in mind that your student is strongly encouraged to submit the FAFSA each year they attend college to be considered for the maximum amount of aid available. We use the FAFSA to determine eligibility for most financial aid programs and some scholarships.
Be sure to use our Financial Aid and Scholarship Office as a resource. We'll continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
Please note: The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid is also delayed until December or early January. This application provides funding for undocumented students not eligible for federal aid. If your student qualifies, our Undocumented Student Resource Center can help them navigate their unique situation.
