The Supportive Professional Staff (SPS) Presidential Award for Excellence recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the university. Each year, four recipients are honored for their accomplishments with $1,500 and a plaque. An individual can only receive the award once, though they can be nominated multiple times. The nomination deadline has been extended to Friday, March 21, 2022.

Eligibility
Candidates for the SPS Presidential Award for Excellence must:
- Be employed as SPS when nominated.
- Be employed at least 50% time.
- Not hold rank or tenure.
- Not have received the award in the past (view a list of past recipients).
Nomination materials will be kept confidential.
Nomination Process
You can nominate someone by filling out the online nomination form. A complete nomination consists of the form, a nomination letter and three letters of support. Only these four letters will be considered. All nominations must include the nominee and nominator's name, title and department.
Your nomination letter and the letters of support should be addressed to the SPS Council Awards Committee and focus on these topics:
- Nominee's contributions to the university and how they've supported and/or advanced NIU's s strategic initiatives. Consider outstanding service, significance of contribution to NIU, support for the university's mission and professionalism. Please differentiate between contributions that are directly related to the nominee's job and those that go above and beyond regular responsibilities.
- Evidence of nominee's commitment to their professional development.
- Nominee's involvement with committees or organizations at NIU or within their profession.
Nominees may be asked to provide additional information.
