| 1. File master's program of courses. |
1. Before the end of the first semester, usually when registering for second-semester courses. |
| 2. Appointment of thesis director and committee member(s). Kuali form completed by student. |

| 3. Register for thesis hours (699). This form is required for initial registration only. Graduate studies assistant will obtain permission in future semesters. |
3. Semester thesis work begun, with permission of adviser; credit hours determined by the adviser. Continuous enrollment is required until formal approval of the thesis by the Graduate School. |
| 4. Apply for conditional admission into a doctoral program. The graduate studies assistant will notify you and provide instructions. |
4. Following the appointment of the thesis director and completion of 30 hours. Requires area endorsement. |

| 6. Apply for IRB or IACUC participant approval. |

| 9. File report of oral defense and approved thesis. Advisor provides information to graduate studies assistants who will submit to Graduate School. |
9. When corrections in the thesis are made to the satisfaction of the examination committee. |

| 11. Apply to Graduate School for graduation through MyNIU. |
