Policies

Plagiarism

The University Writing Center seeks to promote and foster academic integrity alongside the NIU community. Plagiarism occurs when someone takes material from a source and uses that material in his or her own work without proper citation. This compromises academic integrity.

Plagiarism is considered academic misconduct (see Student Code of Conduct, Article III) and is subject to disciplinary action, even if unintentional. For more information about plagiarism and how to avoid it, view the related Academic Integrity tutorial.

Group Policy

To ensure fairness and to comply with university plagiarism policies, we require that

  1. All members of any group project need to be present for the appointment.
  2. Only one person needs to make the appointment, but each group member will have to make an account in the online scheduling system to receive proof of visit confirmation.
  3. The link to that session will be shared with the other members at the time of the appointments.
  4. Each group member will receive proof of the completed session

Late Policy

To ensure that we provide you with high-quality help for your writing projects, we ask that you be on time for your session.

If you are more than10 minutes late, your session will be canceled.

Reschedule or Cancel Appointment

You are able to cancel your appointment through the scheduling system. Please cancel as far in advance as you can. If you miss more than three sessions without canceling them, the rest of your sessions for the semester will be canceled.
