The University Writing Center seeks to promote and foster academic integrity alongside the NIU community. Plagiarism occurs when someone takes material from a source and uses that material in his or her own work without proper citation. This compromises academic integrity.

Plagiarism is considered academic misconduct (see Student Code of Conduct, Article III) and is subject to disciplinary action, even if unintentional. For more information about plagiarism and how to avoid it, view the related Academic Integrity tutorial.

Group Policy

To ensure fairness and to comply with university plagiarism policies, we require that all group members be present for group projects. We know that getting a whole group together can be difficult, but we're happy to work with you to find a workable time. I am sorry, but we can't make exceptions.

Late Policy

To ensure that we provide you with high-quality help for your writing projects, we ask that you be on time for your session.

If you are more than five minutes late for a 30 minute session or 10 minutes late for a 50 minute session, your session may be cancelled. We will gladly help you reschedule your session if we have an open time that will work for you.

Reschedule or Cancel Appointment

Because we become very busy as the semester progresses, it is necessary to have late and/or cancelation policies. We will try to be as accommodating as we can, but there are times, that demand is so great that your appointment may be given to someone who is waiting if you do not show up in a timely manner. Please plan ahead.

Please call as far in advance as you can to cancel or reschedule. If you miss more than three sessions without calling in advance, the rest of your sessions for the semester will be canceled.
