It's Time to Waive or Enroll in Our Student Insurance Program.
Students taking 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed $1,378.00 for student health insurance for fall 2024. You can find more information regarding the plan on our website. If you have comparable insurance and have not yet canceled the plan, the United Healthcare Student Resources is now open until Sept. 30, 2024. This is an online process only. Once you complete the waiver, and it’s accepted the charge for insurance will be removed from your student account.
The waiver deadline is firm, therefore if you do not waive the student health insurance by Sept. 30, you will be enrolled for semester coverage under the plan, and no reimbursements will be given. Question can be emailed to studentinsurance@niu.edu.
Students taking less than 9 credit hours are not automatically enrolled in our student health insurance program. However, if eligible, you do have the opportunity to voluntarily enroll for coverage. The fall open enrollment period for our optional dental, vision, teledoc and health insurance plans administered by Benefit Partners Technology is open until Oct. 31, 2024. Learn more about enrolling in our student health insurance program.

"I have built connections with other students through casual conversations with classmates, attending events and becoming involved in clubs. I have met so many people and formed new friendships. Attending events and club meetings has allowed me to meet people who share similar interests, making it easier to connect with them."
"Take the experience in as it comes to you. You will have struggles and success. Lean on the NIU community to take those struggles and learn and develop from them. Celebrate the success with the NIU community, provide an example for those who may be struggling. I have said the word "fail" is good work; it breaks down to mean "First Attempt In Learning." Think of your experiences as learning throughout life, and you will continue to grow and find success."

Take this quiz to find out if you make a good roommate.
One way to find out what kind of roommate you are is to live with someone for a year, ask them to review your performance, and brace yourself for the verdict. Another way is to take this quiz. Many of these scenarios and responses are based on students’ confessions in CampusWell surveys.
