Engaged Learning: From Class to Community

engaged-learning

Blending theory with practice is a very important part of our approach to learning. Engagement combines civic participation with academic rigor so that both students and the community benefit. Students in the Nonprofit and NGO Studies (NNGO) major and the Certificate of Undergraduate Study in Nonprofit and NGO Studies have opportunities for hands-on learning.

As a Nonprofit and NGO Studies student, you will collaborate with others from class to work in a professional capacity with a nonprofit organization. These projects can be added to your resume as part of your professional work experience. Examples of previous engagement projects include:

  • Creating a community garden plan for a historic residence and museum
  • Developing marketing plans to engage younger clients
  • Organizing fundraising events for an animal shelter
  • Creating board orientation materials to be used for new members
  • Produce short promotional videos for nonprofits to use in social media campaigns

We offer exciting opportunities that tie the classroom to the real world. Nonprofit and NGO Studies students may decide to study abroad, seek out internships, or apply for spring break engaged learning experiences like our recent trip to Washington DC
