Nominations for the 2023 Board of Trustees and Presidential Professorships are now being accepted. Please consider nominating a colleague for one of these prestigious awards.

Nominations now being accepted for the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards for 2023. You can find the details and submission guidelines at go.niu.edu/outstanding-ta-award.

 

Important Change in Timeline for 2022-2023

Traditionally, the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant nominations occur during the spring semester. However, to align with the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools Excellence in Teaching Award, we are moving the nominations to the fall semester.

 

Each academic or academic support unit that employs graduate TAs for teaching and related activities is invited to nominate two outstanding graduate teaching assistants, one at the master’s degree level and the other at the doctoral degree level, from its department/school for the awards.

 

Nominations can be submitted to the department chair/school director or designee. Nominations must complete the nomination form for each nominee and email it with any supporting documents by Monday, Nov. 14, 2022 to citl@niu.edu with the subject line “Nomination for 2023 Outstanding TA Awards.”

 

2022 Outstanding Contributions to International Education Awards Nominations being accepted.

Nominations for the 2022 Outstanding Contributions to International Education Awards are now being accepted. Please consider nominating a colleague or student for one of these prestigious awards. Free NSF Virtual Grants Conference Nov. 14-17, 2022

The National Science Foundation (NSF) will host its free virtual grants conference Nov. 14-17, 2022.  

 

New faculty, researchers, research administrators and staff who work with NSF grants are encouraged to attend. Highlights of the conference include:

  • New programs and initiatives.
  • NSF Directorate sessions.
  • Future directions and strategies for national science policy.
  • Proposal preparation and the merit review process.
  • Award management topics.

Funding for spring 2023 undergraduate research projects available.

Applications for spring 2023 Student Engagement Fund (SEF) and Research, Engagement and Academic Diversity (READ) Grant are currently being accepted and have a due date of Monday, Oct. 31. SEF and READ support projects that consist of undergraduate students working on faculty-mentored research, community-based projects and projects focused on social justice and diversity. Student and faculty submissions are considered.

 

Recipients of the funds are provided financial support of up to $2,500 for research related expenses including project supplies and conference registration (for the student). Additionally, students working on the project are eligible for up to $1,200 in compensation for their work as an undergraduate research assistant.
