Physics 162H Honors Project
Many sections of PHYS 162 can be taken for honors credit. This usually involves an observation project and will be determined by your instructor. This page has some ideas for such projects.
Project Ideas
Below are some ideas for the honors astronomy project.
- Jupiter and Moons
- Saturn and Rings
- Moon and Craters
- Venus and Phases
- Nebulae
- Galaxies
- Sun and Sunspots
- Stellar Life Cycle
- Variable Stars
- Star Clusters
- Solar System Survey
- Double Stars
Creativity is encouraged, so if you have an idea, feel free to express it. For all the projects, concentrate on the methods used and the interpretations of your collected data rather than on theory. The goal of the project is to perform observational astronomy, not to recant facts from a book. The observatory manager will verify that observations have been performed and will give instruction regarding the use of the Observatory's telescopes. Each student will be required to sign in at the Observatory and practice sighting astronomical objects with one or more of the telescope
