Huskies Get Connected

Are you looking for a way to make your experience at NIU meaningful to you? Are you feeling lost, overwhelmed, or searching for something that will spark your interest on NIU's campus?

Huskies Get Connected consists of a group of undergraduate students, called Student Success Team (SST) members, working in First- and Second-Year Experience that have a wealth of knowledge about involvement on campus. SST members work to make your search for beneficial opportunities at NIU easier.

Through Huskies Get Connected, you will have a chance to meet with an involved and knowledgeable peer during a one-on-one consultation to help you discover ways that you can get connected in a personally meaningful way at NIU.

To set up a consultation, please click here and fill out the form.

Also, if you are interested in sending an e-mail to a SST member about involvement to receive a quick response online, please click here.

If you need other campus resources, please check out this page.

What we do:

  • Inform students about involvement opportunities
  • Help students decide which opportunities to pursue
  • Show students how to find future opportunities

About the Student Success Team Members

The Student Success Team is a group of 12-14 undergraduate student employees who are selected in a competitive application and interview process to help us design and implement programs to meet the needs of Northern’s first- and second-year students. The Student Success Team (SST) members represent diverse backgrounds, majors, and experiences at NIU. All undergraduate colleges are represented, and the students have had leadership experiences as Peer Instructors, orientation leaders, and students involved in the Student Association, Black Male Initiative, University Honors, interfaith leadership, student advisory committees, and more. They undergo two days of training prior to the start of school, including ePortfolio development, student engagement through campus organizations, and referral skills. With their level of training and personal experiences with involvement, these SST members are suited to help any student find the right opportunities. To learn more about these SST members individually, visit our staff page.

Partnering Office

The Student Involvement and Leadership Development (SILD) Office contributes to the knowledge the SST members receive during training. SILD is dedicated to helping students engage within their community. To utilize the programs that they offer, please check out their website.
