We offer programs to support students' successful academic, personal, and social transition to NIU. Below you will find links to information on mentorship programs, seminar courses, service opportunities, and programs specifically made to support new NIU freshman, transfer, and sophomore students.

What we do for first-year freshmen?

  • UNIV 101: A one-credit hour course to help students succeed at NIU
  • Student Faculty Links (SFL): A mentorship program to help new students connect with a faculty or staff member
  • First- and Second-Year Success Series (FSYSS): Brief workshops designed to assist and answer questions for first- and second-year students
  • REACH: A program that reaches out to first-year and transfer students via phone and assists them in their overall transition to the university
  • Huskies Get Connected: A customized program that helps first- and second-year students to become involved in academic and extracurricular life at NIU, building on each student's needs and interests

  • Transfer2Transfer (T2T): A mentorship program designed to pair incoming transfer students with students who successfully transferred to NIU
  • First- and Second-Year Success Series (FSYSS): Workshops designed to assist and answer questions for first- and second-year students
  • REACH: A program that reaches out to first-year and transfer students via phone and assists them in their overall transition to the university
