Center for Black Studies

Welcome to the Center for Black Studies (CBS) at Northern Illinois University. The CBS plays a significant, essential and unique role in advocating for Black students at NIU, the larger DeKalb community, and the university’s commitment to multiculturalism and diversity. Established in 1971, the CBS supports the university’s mission of excellence and engagement in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, creativity, artistry and service.
