Tuition, Fees, & Surcharges

Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Tuition Estimator

This tuition estimator was designed for estimating current tuition costs, mandatory fees, housing, and other costs assessed by Northern Illinois University for the current term or year. Note: These estimates only represent eligible charges and credits that are billed through the Office of the Bursar.

DISCLAIMER: Keep in mind that these calculations should not be considered your official guaranteed costs at NIU. Official tuition, fees, and surcharge rates are those billed and reported on your MyNIU account by the Office of the Bursar and are subject to change. Please refer to the Fees and Common Charges page within this website for additional information.

[1] Regional Courses Charges in this tuition estimator are estimated for undergraduate (non-Nursing) students only. For Undergraduate Nursing students and Graduate students, please refer to the Off-Campus Academics website for more details.
[2] Undergraduate and graduate students may be charged material fees per course for materials specific to the course of study. Students average about $50 - $100 per term, but have the potential of being assessed at a higher amount depending on their academic program or courses.
[3] To be eligible to charge books on your student Bursar account, students MUST be receiving financial aid for the term. Students can only charge up to $700 per Fall/Spring term on their account. Bookstore charges added to your student account will appear on your next monthly account statement or MyNIU account.
[4] Other variable fees represent charges that are not assessed to every student. They include program specific fees such as MAS Program Fee, Fast-Trak Fee, or graduate Regional Course Charges

Note: Pending financial aid is based on full time enrollment of at least 12 credit hours per semester (but in the case of the MAP Grant 15 credit hours and Huskie Advantage 16 credit hours per semester). Following the add/drop period each semester, financial aid will adjust for enrollment according to the individual program regulations. See Student’s Rights and Responsibilities for details on individual financial aid programs. It is important to note that financial aid eligibility is determined in accordance with the laws, regulations, and appropriation of the U.S. Congress, the State of Illinois, the NCAA, and Northern Illinois University, and is subject to adjustment or cancellation in the event of changes to these laws or your eligibility.
