Great Apps Every Huskie Should Have
|
Besides the NIU Mobile app, there are severn other apps every Huskie should have. You'll be safe with the NIU Safe App, connected to academics with Navigate Student, in touch with email with Outlook, transported with the Spot Huskie Bus Tracker and involved in clubs and organizations with the Huskie Hub App. Download the eight apps every Huskie should have from the App Store or Google Play.

Join Chelsea McGhee Studios at the Holmes Student Center for a fun-filled Pizza, Paint & Sip experience during Homecoming Weekend. With new painting designs for 2026, there's something for everyone to enjoy!
This family-friendly event welcomes guests of all ages to create their own NIU-inspired masterpiece while enjoying pizza, soda, and time with friends and family.

Deadline for adding or dropping classes
|
If you need to add or drop a class this semester, that’s OK! The final deadline for doing this for full-semester classes is noon Friday, Sept. 4.
Undergraduate students:

- In the first week of classes, use MyNIU to make changes to your schedule through Sunday, Aug. 30.
- In the second week of classes, please contact your advisor to drop a class. To add a class, contact the academic department that offers the class by noon Friday, Sept. 4.

- You can add and drop classes through MyNIU until noon Friday Sept. 4.

Corn Fest Comes to Downtown DeKalb This Weekend!
|
Looking for something fun to do during one of our first weekends back on campus? Corn Fest is one of the last remaining free music festivals among Illinois music festivals and summer festivals. Celebrating its 48th year, the festival will be held in downtown DeKalb on Lincoln Hwy. between 1st and 4th St. from Friday, Aug. 28 through 30.

New NIU Esports Arena Hours for Free Open Play

Come to the NIU Esports Arena with friends or on your own for free open play. We have dozens of gaming PCs and consoles available for use. Check out console games, or sign on with your Steam, Epic or Battle.net account. Anyone with an NIU OneCard is welcome.
Starting Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, our new arena hours are:
Monday through Friday: Noon to 10 p.m.
Saturday: Noon to 5 p.m.
Sunday and university closures: Closed.

Start the Year Strong with Togetherall
|
With the beginning of a new year, academic and social pressure can feel overwhelming, especially for first-year Huskies. You don’t have to face it alone. Togetherall is a free, anonymous, peer-to-peer 24/7 support service offered by NIU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS), that allows you to speak to trained college students, via an online chat, about things with which you are struggling. In its first full year of service at NIU, Togetherall was used by nearly 250 Huskies and 94 percent of users found it helpful.
Togetherall offers an online space to connect with peers who understand what you’re going through. Share your thoughts, explore others’ stories, and engage anonymously in a supportive environment. Use Togetherall by visiting the CCS website or accessing the Togetherall website where you use your NIU email account to register and access the online chat function. The service is anonymous, supportive and safe, with mental health professionals monitoring the site 24/7.

My favorite spot on campus is probably the Holmes Student Center. As a commuter student, it's a great place to relax between classes, grab something to eat, do homework, or catch up/make new friends. It's a great place to feel connected to the rest of campus.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Take the experience in as it comes to you. You will have struggles and success. Lean on the NIU community to take those struggles and learn and develop from them. Celebrate the success with the NIU community, provide an example for those who may be struggling. I have said the word "fail" is good work; it breaks down to mean "First Attempt In Learning." Think of your experiences as learning throughout life, and you will continue to grow and find success.
