There's still time to register for fall classes.

Now is the time to start preparing to register for fall 2023 classes. Read the tips below and learn when to register and how to register for classes.

Jump start your career with UNIV 301.

If you’re looking to get ready for your career or graduate school, consider taking UNIV 301: Braven Leadership and Career Accelerator, a 3-credit elective course taught by Leadership Coaches working in a variety of industries. As mentors, they provide you with valuable feedback and insights, so you’re better prepared for your future after NIU.

Nearly 400 Huskies have already completed UNIV 301 since it first launched in Fall 2022. Talk to your advisor and enroll for Fall 2023 via MyNIU during registration. Learn more about UNIV 301.

Interested in the ROTC?
The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at NIU is designed to give you experience in organizing, motivating and leading others – all while completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree of your choice.

If you have two years remaining on the path to finishing your degree, you’re eligible to take part in our summer Basic Camp. If you’re not sure about ROTC, attending Basic Camp is the perfect way to experience our program without making a commitment of service.

What is Basic Camp?

  • Basic Camp is designed to introduce you to the Army – an opportunity to experience the ROTC program without signing up.
  • This 32-day event is held at Fort Knox, a United States Army training base located in Kentucky.
  • You’ll learn leadership skills while earning credits that are applied toward your NIU graduation requirements.
  • You’ll develop the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in life, ROTC and ultimately the Army.

Find more about NIU ROTC and Department of Military Science or contact Keith F. Buchanan, scholarship and enrollment officer, at kbuchanan1@niu.edu or 815-753-6237. There’s a path for you in this leadership program.

Parking permits go on sale July 5, 2023.

Parking permits for the next academic year (2023-2024) are available online beginning
July 5, 2023. Parking permits are virtual, so you will not receive a physical permit. Your license plate will act as your parking permit.

Our Customer Parking Portal provides convenient access to your parking account information. You can view your account, purchase a parking permit, make a ticket payment and update vehicle information.

A free parking option is also available. Those who take advantage of this option have a virtual green permit which allows for remote parking in Lot K on the west side of campus, just off Lincoln Highway.

For those only needing temporary parking, there are short-term parking options available. Short-term permits can be purchased online, and options include daily, weekly and monthly permits. Short-term parking is also available at pay stations and via the AMP Park mobile app.

You can visit our website for additional information. If you have any questions, please contact Parking Services at 815-753-1045 or parking@niu.edu.

Tip from a Huskie

"For most courses, attending class regularly sets you on the fast track to success. Days when you are confused about a reading or struggling on an assignment are the days when showing up to class can help you out. Most teachers are there to help!"

Summer reading

Weekly Wellness Tip

Looking for that perfect summer book? Check out these must-reads

When was the last time you read a book for fun? If it takes you a minute to remember, we get it. When you’re constantly reading for school, the last thing you want to do is pick up a novel and read more. You’re not alone in feeling that way, either. In a recent CampusWell survey, just under one-third of respondents said they don’t read for pleasure.
