Information for Transfer Students

Roughly half of philosophy majors are transfer students, most of them from community colleges in Illinois.  College coursework completed at another college or university can transfer toward completion of your degree requirements at NIU, and some courses can transfer toward completion of the requirements in the major in philosophy.   Undergraduate Admissions offers a number of resources for understanding how your coursework can transfer to NIU and information about how to contact an advisor in the Transfer Center.

For Illinois Community College Transfer Students

If you are completing, or plan to complete, an associate's degree at an Illinois community college prior to transferring to NIU to major in philosophy, please see the general Philosophy 2+2 Transfer Guide.

The department has agreed to customized 2+2 transfer guides with the community colleges listed below.  If you will be transferring from one of these community colleges, follow the appropriate link to see how courses taken at your community college will count toward the major in philosophy at NIU and what remaining coursework will be required to complete the major at NIU.
