Jeff Sterling, Finance and Leadership Advisor

Jeff Sterling’s extensive expertise in finance, banking, leadership, and board governance was built over more than four decades in community banking. Starting as a drive-up teller, Jeff has served in all aspects of banking, ultimately leading to the role of President & CEO. Jeff retired from German-American State Bank, German Valley, Illinois in April, 2022. He still serves as a director of German-American State Bank and a director of the bank’s holding company, Foresight Financial Group.

As a banker, Jeff’s primary area of expertise is in commercial lending to small and mid-size businesses. In this role, he helped hundreds of businesses achieve their goals and contribute to the economic growth of their communities. At the same time, he served the non-for-profit sector as a volunteer, often serving as board chair, president, or treasurer. He led United Way employer campaigns and various non-profit fund drives. He served as a director of Stepping Stones of Rockford and of Burpee Museum of Natural History.

As a life-long resident of Pecatonica, Jeff is known for his community involvement. He consistently supports community projects, gatherings, and clubs. He was a member of Rotary International, the Pecatonica Fans Club, and the Pecatonica Economic Development Committee.

Jeff graduated from Eastern Illinois University and the Graduate School of Banking. He served honorably in the United State Marine Corps Reserves.
