Whether it is due to COVID-19, other health concerns, childcare conflicts, or any of the many barriers that might prevent students from attending class in-person, you may find a need to stream your in-person class for remote students. This type of course is sometimes called a hybrid, HyFlex, concurrent, or mixed modality course. For the purposes of this guide, we are referring to this as hybrid or live streaming.
This page provides an overview of ideas and tips for designing and delivering a hybrid class. How you do this depends on several factors specific to your particular situation, including the size of your class, the nature of your planned course activities and your student situation, including how many students will be learning remotely and what their schedules are.
Despite the variety of factors that can come into play when teaching a course with a mix of in-person and online students, there are some basic principles and considerations that can be used to approach reworking an existing course for this format.
