NIU at Oriel College, Oxford University

June 24th- July 27th 2018

The 49^th annual summer program offered by Northern Illinois University and Oriel College Oxford features courses at all levels from General Education through Doctoral Seminars.

The program is designed to take advantage of the unique resources of the British setting including the Oxford libraries, scientific and historical field trip sites, museums, and theatres of London and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Instruction and seminars are provided by NIU and Oxford faculty. Participating students and instructors live and dine in the same halls, so that formal class meetings can be supplemented by individual tutorials and informal conversations.

Enrollment in all courses is deliberately kept low in order to permit maximum interaction between students and faculty. Classes meet from Monday through Thursday to allow students weekends to explore England and the European Continent.

Oriel College

The program will take place in Oriel College, founded in 1326 and considered to be one of the most beautiful of the 34 colleges that make up Oxford University. Oxford is less than 60 miles from London and Stratford upon Avon, with frequent and inexpensive bus service to both cities. Cambridge, Canterbury and other places with historical, literary and scientific connections are within 100 miles, and there is virtually no place in Britain or Western Europe that cannot be visited on a weekend trip.
