Research Interests

My curiosity in Latin American theatre began as an undergraduate at UC Irvine where I was first introduced to theatrical works by renowned dramatists such as Emilio Carballido, Jorge Díaz, Osvaldo Dragún, Griselda Gambaro, Xavier Villaurrutia and many more. At UNC-Chapel Hill, I developed even further my interest in theatre under the direction of Dr. Stuart Day. Whereas my graduate research focused primarily on US Latinx works, I have since discovered that my passion lies with Mexican theatrical productions, with a critical lens on gender and sexuality as well as historical reinterpretations of plays.

I believe it is important to bring my research into the classroom where I can explore ideas with my students and perhaps inspire them to pursue a similar area of interest. In my teaching, I hope to motivate my students to celebrate their diversity and to bring their experiences with them to share with others. Teaching gives me the opportunity to impart my knowledge to students and to incorporate their ideas into the classroom as well. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and the chance it provides me to challenge my students.
