We are excited to welcome new and returning Huskies home!

Huskie Fall Kick-Off August 24

Huskie Kick-Off—at this dynamic event you’ll learn what it means to be a NIU Huskie fan! We’ll celebrate the different NIU traditions with the president, faculty, staff, fellow students, and some of our student athletes. Immediately following the Kick-Off, you’ll head to the field and form a giant “NIU” for a class photo. A can’t miss event!

RHA Block Party August 24

Come out to the Residence Hall Association’s Annual Block Party! Enjoy entertainment, giveaways and much more. The Block Party will offer a variety of games and activities throughout the night and is one of RHA’s biggest programs.

Jewel Jamboree August 24

Come enjoy games, a live DJ, airbrush tattoos, LOTS of freebies, late-night eats, and a ton of deals only available to NIU students. All attendees will be entered to win a $50 Jewel-Osco Gift Card. Don't forget to wear your NIU gear. Free bus service will be provided to and from the store.

Start NIU – A Military, Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Welcome August 25

Join Military and Post-Traditional Student Services for its seventh annual Welcome Days! Enjoy some food and refreshments, get valuable information about services and engagement opportunities, and connect with other post-traditional, commuter, transfer and military students. Bring your friends and family – all are welcome!

Sundaes on Saturday August 25

Meet students, facutly, and staff from the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Department of Anthropology as we celebrate a new year and moving back into the newly renovated Stevens Building! Enjoy free ice cream and take a building tour.

Saturday of Service August 25

Jump-start your Saturday with a gratifying experience! Participate in meaningful and empowering volunteer opportunities. Join us at the Saturday of Service kick-off and home-base, located in the Campus Life Building, room 100. Materials will be provided for service experiences. Just bring your positive attitudes!

Meet the Greeks August 25

Come have lunch with the NIU Greeks! Join current members of fraternity & sorority life at this picnic-style event for free food, music, games, and mingling with current students. Each of our fraternities and sororities will have members at the event, so you can walk around, meet some new people, and learn about all the great things Greek life has to offer at NIU!

The Mentalist Team August 25

Join us for some mind-blowing mind reading! Mentalism involves mind reading, altering the state of matter using the mind and finding hidden or lost objects. This event will be highly entertaining and hilarious. These professional mentalists will read your mind and surely have you scratching your head. You have to see this to believe it!

Glow in the Dark Dance Party August 25

Don’t miss NIU’s epic Glow in the Dark Dance Party! Decorate a free t-shirt with highlighters or wear fluorescent clothing and glow-in-the-dark accessories to dance the night away in things neon. We bring the black lights, you bring the party!

Involvement Fair August 26

Make your college years count by getting involved at NIU! With over 325 student organizations on campus, you will be sure to find one (or more) that interests you. The Involvement Fair is an opportunity for you to learn more about what numerous student organizations and departments have to offer. You will also have an opportunity to meet student organization leaders, NIU staff and faculty members and not-for-profit community agencies.

Back to Campus School Tour August 26

Are you new to campus and want to know how to find your classes on your first day? Come join Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. on tours and learn the campus. After the tours enjoy some free food and other special treats at the BBQ. The free BBQ will include a step show and a pop up shop where you can buy different merchandise that ranges from cupcakes to free clothing. Come let us welcome you to the campus before school officially begins.

President’s Welcome Back Picnic August 26

Join President Freeman for an afternoon of music, food and other fun events and activities on the shores of the picturesque East Lagoon. The president’s picnic is a great way for the NIU community to celebrate the start of an exciting new school year.
