"I make it a point to stay ahead of everything. I prefer completing my homework a week in advance and starting my study sessions early. Staying ahead of deadlines and assignments significantly reduces stress and helps me manage my time more effectively, making my academic life much more manageable."
"College is a journey. The first couple of semesters should be more about exploring and understanding what you enjoy; discovering people, ideas and cultures that you knew nothing about; and using these experiences to" help affirm what you value. These experiences should help narrow down the pathway toward a degree, and hopefully ignite a passion to be a lifelong learner. By pursuing opportunities outside the classroom, you also can discover how to improve your skills and talents."

Start the Year Strong with Togetheral
With the beginning of a new year, academic and social pressure can feel overwhelming, especially for first-year Huskies. You don’t have to face it alone. Togetherall is a free, anonymous, peer-to-peer 24/7 support service offered by NIU Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS), that allows you to speak to trained college students, via an online chat, about things with which you are struggling. In its first full year of service at NIU, Togetherall was used by nearly 250 Huskies and 94 percent of users found it helpful.
Togetherall offers an online space to connect with peers who understand what you’re going through. Share your thoughts, explore others’ stories, and engage anonymously in a supportive environment. Use Togetherall by visiting the CCS website or accessing the Togetherall website where you use your NIU email account to register and access the online chat function. The service is anonymous, supportive and safe, with mental health professionals monitoring the site 24/7.
