Today is the last day to waive student health insurance.
Students taking 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed $1,378.00 for student health insurance for fall 2024. You can find more information regarding the plan on our website. If you have comparable insurance and have not yet canceled the plan, the United Healthcare Student Resources is now open until Sept. 30, 2024. This is an online process only. Once you complete the waiver, and it’s accepted the charge for insurance will be removed from your student account.
The waiver deadline is firm, therefore if you do not waive the student health insurance by Sept. 30, you will be enrolled for semester coverage under the plan, and no reimbursements will be given. Question can be emailed to studentinsurance@niu.edu.
Students taking less than 9 credit hours are not automatically enrolled in our student health insurance program. However, if eligible, you do have the opportunity to voluntarily enroll for coverage. The fall open enrollment period for our optional dental, vision, teledoc and health insurance plans administered by Benefit Partners Technology is open until Oct. 31, 2024. Learn more about enrolling in our student health insurance program.

"I am very involved in organizations and extracurricular activities on campus. I started my first semester as a dance member of the Latin dance team Tumbao. I was captain the next semester, and the following year I was appointed co-director. When I am not dancing, I am involved in political groups on campus. I’m a founder of the YDSA: Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter, a member of NIU College Democrats and a member of Model Illinois Government, where I am currently the acting governor for the state executive board. These activities have added to my experience as a Huskie by promoting professionalism and learning every day. I am constantly learning how to be a better version of myself."

"Get involved in as much as you can without it impacting your academic career. Getting involved in organizations on campus helped me develop my leadership and communication skills. It also gives you the chance to network with individuals who you may not normally be able to connect with. However, as I stated before, get involved within reason, meaning do not let your involvement impact your grades. You do not want to be a social success and an academic mess. I also highly recommend doing a study abroad program if you are able. This will open your mind to different cultural perspectives and broaden your mind toward what it means to be a student and the opportunities that you have that others may not."

4 benefits of staying hydrated—and creative ways to drink more water
There’s a lot of hype on the internet about things like how to replenish your energy, keep your digestion running smoothly, and achieve glowing skin. Various “superfoods” and supplements are touted, along with some pretty sketchy diet advice (celery juice cleanse, anyone?). But what if the missing piece to your puzzle is simply upping your water intake? That’s right—while it may not be a magic fix, water has a ton of health benefits that can help you stay on your A-game.
