Eligibility and Presentation Requirements
Removal of artwork will follow immediately after reception. An official school representative must be available immediately after the closing reception at 4 p.m. to pick up the artwork. Please note we have no storage facilities available for artwork left at the NIU School of Art and Design building after this time.
Artwork Eligibility and Presentation
- Each high school art teacher is invited to submit up to two pieces of student artwork.
- All work on paper must be on white mat board.
- All works on canvas must be stretched.
- 2D work (including mat board) must not exceed 24-by-32 inches.
- 3D work must not exceed 24 inches in width/depth, 48 inches in height and 50 pounds in weight.
- Works derived from a published source may be exhibited but will be eliminated from award consideration.
- Only work completed after Jan. 1 of yearly invitational is eligible.
- Artwork that does not meet these criteria will not be exhibited in the Jack Olson Gallery.

Advisory
Copying old masters and magazine photos can be valuable for learning techniques and composition. However, many original compositions are covered by copyright laws and the NIU School of Art and Design adheres to strict antiplagiarism standards. Any artwork that is identified as derived from a published source will still be exhibited but eliminated from award consideration.
Responsibility for Artwork
All reasonable care will be given to artwork. Jack Olson Gallery and the NIU School of Art and Design are not responsible for any damages or loss that may occur while the work is on our premises.
Submitted entries Requirments
All work should be dropped of and labeled with the following information:
- Student name
- Teacher name
- School name
- Title of piece
- Medium
- Dimensions
- Student’s current grade level
- Parental release form (one per student)
