High School Invitational Exhibition

This exhibition of high school artwork produced by students in the northern Illinois region is sponsored by the NIU School of Art and Design. Awards are made available by Blick Art Materials. Senior art students are eligible to win an NIU scholarship.

Exhibition

The High School Invitational will be on view from Nov. 4-16, 2024, workshops and a closing reception will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The closing reception will take place from 3-4 p.m. Awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m. in Jack Olson Gallery. Artwork must be removed by 4 p.m. on November 16.

Workshop registration will start at noon until 1 p.m. in person before the closing reception. Workshops are first come first serve and are for current high school students only. Students may only select one workshop from 1-2 p.m. and one workshop from 2-3 p.m.

Photography Darkroom Demo Learn how to make photograms in the darkroom and gain experience using traditional photographic processes. Room 313 1-2 p.m.
Art Education Panel Learn more about the art education program and the experience of students from this presentation with a panel of current faculty and students. Room 202 1-2 p.m.
Building Tour Tour the School of Art and Design and hear about all the programs we offer. Room 213 1-2 p.m.
Monotype Printmaking With Gel Plates

Learn the basics of monotype, a printmaking technique used to create one-of-a-kind prints. This workshop will utilize gel plates to transfer your image from ink to paper. Participants will create fun and experimental work and will leave with a handful of prints.

Stop Motion Animation Learn the basics of stop motion animation with art education Professor Kelly Gross. Room 213 2-3 p.m.
