Advertising Open Positions Using Job Packs Provided by AAEOE
Feb. 9, 2021

Hello colleagues,

During this time while we are in a hiring chill, the Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity and Education Office (AAEOE) has been engaging colleagues across the university on ways to improve our process for advertising open positions and developing cost-effective strategies to broaden our audience reach and increase applicant diversity. While hiring remains limited at this time, I am pleased to share that the university has secured job packs with several prominent and first-rate media vendors to make job advertising seamless and help cast wider nets for qualified, diverse candidates. Advertising through these job packs will be free of charge to your departments.

Our job packs with many of these media vendors offer the ability for them to scrape our university job board for positions, and advertise them automatically to their respective sites. This action would greatly reduce the time and effort it currently takes to get a position advertised externally.

Below are the vendors that we are utilizing that have unlimited job scraping abilities:

• Chronicle of Higher Education
HigherEdJobs
• Academic Keys
• Diverse Issues in Higher Education
• Asians in Higher Education
• Blacks in Higher Education
• Hispanics in Higher Education
• Disabled in Higher Ed

• LGBT in Higher Education
• Native Americans in Higher Education
• Veterans in Higher Education
• Circa (formerly Local Job Network)
• Women and Higher Education
• Inside Higher Ed
• Monster*
• Chronicle of Philanthropy**

*Monster offers limited job scraping for a total of 250 jobs per year, and only Staff positions will be scraped onto its job board.
**Chronicle of Philanthropy postings must be made manually by AAEOE as the platform does not job scrape.

We are also utilizing LinkedIn and CareerBuilder, however those sites do not provide free advertising, have limited or no job scraping abilities and limit the number of postings per year on their sites.

The
Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, and Education (AAEOE) office has finalized this new process with the vendors, and as of January 2021 all positions that are on the job board are now being scraped and advertised through our new vendors.

We do understand that some departments may still want to pay to have employment opportunities advertised through industry-specific resources and more guidance regarding this option is available on the
AAEOE website.

For assistance with the
AAEOE SharePoint or for questions regarding the job packs and advertising in general, please reach out to Alan Clay at affirmativeaction@niu.edu.

I want to thank you for your commitment to making NIU an inclusive community and for utilizing this new process for advertising open positions moving forward.

Sincerely,

Vernese Edghill-Walden
Chief Diversity Officer
Interim Chief Human Resource Officer
