Tagalog Instructor, Northern Illinois University (June 1997- Present). Plan and develop instructional activities for teaching Tagalog/Filipino as a Foreign Language to college students. Develop instructional materials for learning Tagalog online.

ESL Teacher, East Elementary School, Athens, Ohio (September 1995 - May 1997). Planned and facilitated instructional activities to a small group of ESL students (K-4). Instructional activities were implemented using Integrated Thematic Instruction (ITI) and Multiple Intelligences in the classroom.

Program Director, ESL/Refugee Outreach Program, Hawthorn Hill, Des Moines, Iowa (June 1993 - July 1995). Supervised and trained a staff of volunteer ESL teachers, outreach workers, preschool teachers, van drivers and other program staff at Hawthorn Hill, a multi-service agency working with Southeast Asian, African, East European refugees and Mexican and South American immigrants. Developed English Language curriculum and instructional materials for use by volunteer teachers. Coordinated with other social service agencies and ESL programs in Des Moines. Administered the different projects and programs of the program. Developed resources for the program through grant proposal writing and public presentations to local churches and community groups.

ESL Teacher, PREP (Preparing Refugees for Elementary Program), World Relief Corporation, PRPC (Philippine Refugee Processing Center), Bataan, Philippines (May 1987 - March 1993). Experienced classroom instruction for Southeast Asian Refugees enrolled in the PREP Program, an overseas training program of the Bureau of Refugees, US Department of State.

Presentations and Publications

Teacher Trainer, PREP, World Relief Corporation, Bataan, Philippines and ESL/Refugee Outreach Program, Hawthorn Hill, Des Moines, Iowa. Developed teacher training presentations on topics such as: Reading Process and activities, Process Writing, Green Circle Activities as a tool for cooperative learning, classroom management and conflict resolution, Intergenerational Literacy, and the use of Learning Centers in the classroom. These presentations were used for teacher training in the PREP Program, Bataan, Philippines and the ESL Program in Des Moines, Iowa.
