Annual Compliance Trainings for Faculty, Staff, and Student Workers
|
During the month of October, the following three (3) mandatory trainings for all employees will be available in Blackboard:
|
- Ethics, Discrimination and Harassment
- Sexual Misconduct
- Information Security Awareness.
|
Each training varies in length from 45 minutes to one (1) hour. These trainings will be open from Oct. 6, 2025 through Oct. 31, 2025. All training must be completed by the last date of the training period prior to midnight. There will be no extensions available. Learn more about the trainings by visiting the NIU Calendar.

Nominations for the 2026 Board of Trustees and Presidential Professorships are now being accepted. Please consider nominating a colleague for one of these prestigious awards.

All professorships share the same nomination deadline of Monday, October 6, 2025, followed by a Monday, November 10, 2025 deadline for full application materials. Note starting this year, persons who have been nominated and submitted the materials above within the last three years will automatically be considered in the current year’s competition. These candidates will be contacted and given the opportunity to update materials for their application.

President's Office Seeks Applications for President Staff Fellow Program
|
The Office of the President seeks to identify a member of the Supportive Professional Staff or Operating Staff interested in serving a year-long professional development fellowship. The Office of the President Staff Fellow will be assigned special projects needed to carry out the functions of the Office of the President and will be afforded professional development opportunities. The fellow will be appointed for the 2026 calendar year and will report to the university’s chief strategy officer. Learn more about the President Staff Fellow Program, including how to apply. The department of Philosphy offers both an undergraduate program and a nationally ranked terminal Master’s program. The department has seven tenured faculty members, several instructors, 25-30 graduate students and numerous undergraduate students. The department provides general education courses to many NIU undergraduate students. This position is fully accountable for the administration of all office support functions necessary to sustain the mission of the Department of Philosophy.

Transportation Services Seeks Applicants Sought for Office Administrator Position
|
Transportation Services is seeking an Office Administrator. Transportation services provide transportation support to faculty, staff and students conducting official university business. Transportation Services maintains a fleet of approximately 200 vehicles. This person in this position will provide office support to the department and provide customer service to NIU’s campus partners who require transportation to fulfill their duties in advancing the mission of the university.

Nominations Now Being Accepted for the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards
|
Nominations are now open for the 2025-2026 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards. Each academic or academic support unit is invited to nominate two outstanding graduate teaching assistants — one at the master’s level and one at the doctoral level — for the awards. Nominations can be submitted by the department chair/school director or designee.
Nominations are due Friday, Oct. 24, 2025. More information about the award and the nomination process can be found on the awards page of the CITL website.

Schedule Your Hearing Test Today.

Are you exposed to loud sounds or music? Do you often ask others to repeat what they say? NIU students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in a free, 30-minute hearing test at The Hearing Conservation Center, sponsored by the School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorders.
Services include: hearing health screener, noise exposure assessment, outer/middle ear screening and hearing protection consultation.

Northern Illinois University will host its annual flu clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, in the Holmes Student Center Ballroom.
Please note: COVID-19 and High-Dose flu vaccines will not be available at this clinic.
