A new tradition is being introduced as NIU plans its 115th Homecoming celebration. The “Pride with Purpose” annual shirt sale will support student scholarships and allow Huskies to show their pride with a limited-edition piece of apparel. Huskies are encouraged to vote for their favorite of three proposed design.

Homecoming concert tickets are now on sale.

Students can now purchase tickets for the Waka Flocka Flame concert taking place on Oct. 1 in the Duke Ellington Ballroom at the Holmes Student Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets for faculty and staff go on sale on Sept. 23.

Are you excited for Brunch with Mission and Victor E.?

Have you purchased your family's tickets to the Second Annual NIU Homecoming Brunch, hosted by the NIU Alumni Association and NIU Foundation?  The bunch will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Oct. 8 in front of NIU's historic and picturesque Altgeld Hall on College Avenue.

Join the faculty/staff bowling league at the Huskie Den!

The Huskie Den is hosting a faculty/staff bowling league this fall that is open to all current NIU employees. An info night will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. in the Huskie Den. The league teams will be made up of 3 to 4 individuals and the cost will be $6 per person, per league night. As an added bonus any league bowler can have 3 free games once a week, and free locker rental. If you are interested in learning more about the league or have any questions feel free to visit the Huskie Den website email huskieden@niu.edu.

Know someone interested in working at NIU?

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, NIU Human Resources will be hosting a job fair targeted for people interested in working on the NIU campus in the capacity of an office support professional, administrative aide, or administrative assistant.  The job fair will take place in the Holmes Student Center Capitol Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Department representatives will be present to talk about opportunities in their areas, and HRS will provide the technology to submit a general application indicating interest in current openings, allowing attendees to apply once for multiple areas.

President's Office seeks applications for President Staff Fellow Program.

The Office of the President seeks to identify a member of the Supportive Professional Staff or Operating Staff interested in serving a year-long, full-time professional development fellowship. The Office of the President Staff Fellow will be assigned special projects needed to carry out the functions of the Office of the President and will be afforded professional development opportunities. The fellow will be appointed for the 2023 calendar year and will report to the president’s chief of staff. Learn more about the President Staff Fellow Program, including how to apply. The Grill at the Huskie Den to begin offering meal exchange.
Meal plan holders, we are happy to announce that The Grill at the Huskie Den will be begin offering meal exchange from 7 to 9 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 19. For one meal swipe, you can enjoy a tasty Huskie Jr. Burger, Huskie Garden Salad, chicken strips or a crispy chicken sandwich; each option includes Huskie Chips and a fountain beverage. Full menu will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. when The Grill is open. Limited menu will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. when only The Bar is open. Faculty Senate seeks Faculty Personnel Advisor.

Faculty Senate is seeking a faculty personnel advisor to serve a three-year term, consisting of the remainder of 2022-23, as well as all of 2023-24 and 2024-25.

 

The faculty personnel advisor’s role includes such activities as the following:

  • Advise faculty members about the personnel policies and procedures within the university and the courses of action open to them.
  • Advise and assist faculty members who are experiencing difficulties with the
    personnel process.
  • Advise and assist faculty members dissatisfied with personnel decisions.
  • Observe the workings of the personnel process and recommend needed changes or clarification.
  • Advise faculty members pursuing the resolution of other concerns or issues.

The advisor must be a full-time faculty member, have experience with the personnel process at various levels and be familiar with the administrative structure and operations of the university. The advisor shall receive an annual stipend equal to one month of the median salary of all tenured professors. For a more detailed description of the faculty personnel advisor role, see Faculty Senate Bylaws, Article 13.

 

Interested faculty members should send a letter of self-nomination describing their interest and qualifications to Ismael Montana, president of the Faculty Senate, montana@niu.edu, by Friday, Oct. 7. Questions should be directed to Ismael Montana at montana@niu.edu.

 

Travel Reimbursement training available.

As per the announcement in May 2022, Accounts Payable Services in the Division of Administration and Finance has enhanced the university’s employee travel reimbursement process to increase efficiency and provide a more robust method for submitting employee travel vouchers.  From June 1st, employees had the ability to submit and approve travel vouchers completely electronically through the OnBase system, eliminating the need for paper or Excel forms.

 

Live training sessions were made available in May in addition to online guides and video tutorials, so travelers, travel voucher preparers and approvers could become more familiar with the new process but due to the feedback received, Accounts Payable has decided to provide live training once more, so, please take a moment to register and attend these live training sessions.

Two flu shot clinics scheduled for fall semester.

The DeKalb County Health Department, NIU Employee Assistance Program and NIU School of Nursing will host two flu shot clinics this fall in the Holmes Student Center, Duke Ellington Ballroom on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please review additional information on the webpage before booking your appointment. Please keep your original confirmation in case you need to cancel or reschedule you time or day. The information is at the bottom of your confirmation email.

 

Note: To ensure safety, entrance will be at the east side door of the Ballroom with the exit through the west door. Face masks are required. There will be no COVID-19 vaccines available at these clinics.

NIU Volleyball to host Diversity and Inclusion Night, Sept. 16.

On Sept. 16 NIU Volleyball takes on Rhode Island and will host its annual Diversity & Inclusion Night, and we would love to see everyone on campus there! The game starts at 6 p.m. at Victor E. Court. Prior to the game we will host our first annual Diversity and Inclusion Open House that starts at 4 p.m. in the north lobby of the Convocation Center. During the open house students, faculty and staff can learn more about diversity and inclusion groups and resource centers on campus!

Have you registered for the DeKalb Corn Classic?

Beginning and ending in Downtown DeKalb, the route will take runners through historical neighborhoods, along the Kishwaukee River via Prairie Park, through NIU's campus and Huskie Stadium and ending in Van Buer Plaza with a post race celebration! On course entertainment includes the Huskie Marching Band, NIU Jazz Band and Steelband!


Register before Sept. 23, the registration fee for the 10K is $45  and the fee for the 5K is $35.
Register on Sept. 24 - 25 and the fee is $50 for the 10K, and the fee for the 5K is $40. Learn more about the DeKalb Corn Classic and sign up to participate!
