DoIT to update security certificates. At 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 the Division of Information Technology will renew the security certificates used to authenticate to NIUWireless. This renewal process happens annually. Users may notice that they have to accept the new certificate or reconnect to NIUWireless.

Anywhere Print Update Project
The Anywhere Print Update Project is continuing to roll-out Departmental printers to across Campus. This week we are targeting Graham and Alumni Center on Monday; Gabel, Building Services, Physical Plant, and Dorland on Wednesday; HSC and Anderson on Friday. DoIT has been working with distributed IT to ensure that the new Papercut client is installed on users’ computers. If you would like to read more about the new Print environment you can visit the DoIT website. We also have 3 open sessions where anyone can stop by and get an overview and ask questions from a trainer. These will take place at Founders Memorial Library on:
- Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 6 from 9 to 11 a.m.
- Thursday, March 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The current plan is still forecasting completing the project by the end of March. A dashboard has been create to indicate what printers have been replaced and the estimated date for upcoming swaps.

Students who engage in disordered eating often struggle amidst academic pressures and uncertainty about seeking help.
This workshop aims to educate faculty, staff and student peers on the four main types of eating disorders, provide techniques to engage in effective communication with at-risk students, and increase knowledge about where to direct folx for campus support.

Special Collections and Archives accepting fellowship applications.
The NIU Libraries Special Collections and Archives welcomes applications for three fellowship programs to fund student and professional research based on the library's rare book and special collection holdings:
- Horatio Alger Society Fellowship for the Study of American Popular Culture — One award of up to $2,000 for visiting scholars, with emphasis on the use of our Horatio Alger Jr., Edward Stratemeyer, 19th-century dime novels and other American popular culture collections.
- Pick-Laudati Rare Books and Special Collections Fellowship — One award of up to $1,000 for visiting scholars using materials from any of the RBSC's collecting areas.
- NIU Student Scholar Rare Books and Special Collections Fellows — Three awards of up to $500 each for NIU graduate students or rising seniors from any discipline to develop research and creative projects around the rare books and special collections.

Travel Voucher update: New allowance maximums for lodging and meal per diem.
Effective Feb. 1, 2024, allowance maximums for lodging and meal per diem should be verified through the GSA Per Diem Rates in accordance with 80 Ill. Adm. Code 3000.400, 3000.500, 3000.510 and Appendix A. You may search per diems by selecting the state and city, or by ZIP code to find the applicable rates. Per diem on travel days is still based on time of travel using the quarter system per HETCB allowances. The General Services Administration (GSA) may modify these rates periodically throughout federal Fiscal Year 2024. When using the GSA meal per diem rate tables, please do not include the incidental expenses in amounts submitted for reimbursement. The policy for day trip meal allowances for reimbursement of breakfast and/or dinner has not changed. New F&A Rates for Sponsored Programs
The federal government recently approved new F&A (also known as indirect cost) rates for federal sponsored programs at Northern Illinois University. Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) will begin applying these rates to new proposals and awards received on or after March 1, 2024, and with a budget start date on or after July 1, 2024. There will be no change to F&A rates on existing awards.
The on-campus rates for Organized Research and Instruction will increase from 49% to 52% and the rate for Other Sponsored Activities will change from 32.9% to 37%. All off-campus programs will continue to use the 26% rate.

Supportive Professional Staff Awards Committee accepting nominations.
Do you know a Supportive Professional Staff employee who goes above and beyond in their work, who is a positive force within their unit and who exemplifies the Huskie Spirit? Then submit their name and brief statement to the SPS Awards Committee for consideration by the extended deadline, Thursday, Feb. 29. A description of the awards can be found on the Supportive Professional Staff website.
The Certificate of Recognition Program was initiated in 2003 to acknowledge the contributions of SPS who have achieved accomplishments in addition to their regular job duties. Certificates are presented at the annual SPS Awards Ceremony for such accomplishments as:
- Publication of books or articles.
- Presentations or papers delivered at professional conferences.
- Leadership in professional associations.
- Honors and recognitions received.
- Advanced academic degrees or professional certifications earned
To nominate yourself or a fellow SPS for a Certificate of Recognition, please provide the name and a brief statement of the nominee’s accomplishments by Monday, March 4.
