Faculty Senate and University Council accepting instructor representative self-nominations.
Faculty Senate (FS) and University Council (UC) invite self-nominations for election to a three-year term in one of three at-large instructor representative seats on FS, or in one of two at-large instructor representative seats on UC. Service by instructors on shared governance bodies is voluntary.
Both Faculty Senate and University Council meet monthly at 3 p.m. Wednesdays, in person only (FS meeting dates; UC meeting dates). In addition, members might be asked to participate on a standing committee to work on specific projects that later are brought forward to the larger Faculty Senate or University Council body.
For this purpose, instructors are defined by the Instructors Collective Bargaining Agreement as: All full-time faculty members in the ranks of faculty assistants, instructors and lecturers who currently hold temporary appointments of 50% or more of a normal faculty appointment, including employees who devote 50% or more of their working time to noninstructional duties at NIU.
Self-nominations should include your name, academic department and the body (FS or UC) for which you are self-nominating. Also, please share a brief paragraph describing your qualifications and/or desire to serve, which will be included on a potential ballot if a ballot is necessary. Self-nominations should be submitted to Pat Erickson at pje@niu.edu no later than Friday, Oct. 27. If more self-nominations than available seats are received, a ballot will be distributed to all eligible instructors following the self-nomination deadline.
