Plans for Spring Semester
Provost Ingram sent a message on Thursday outlining the plans for the spring semester and changes being made to continue supporting the health and well-being of our university community as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. While details will be worked out in the coming weeks and months and more updates will be forthcoming, the university wants you to have the latest information so that you can plan accordingly.

Do your part to protect the pack by attending NIU’s second Flu Vaccine Clinic taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Holmes Student Center. Flu shots are free for employees enrolled in state-sponsored insurance plans. Schedule your five-minute appointment and complete the client form in advance.

MyNIU Student System maintenance scheduled
The MyNIU Student System will be unavailable from 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 due to system maintenance.


Annual ethics and cybersecurity trainings now available

The annual ethics training and cybersecurity training are now 
available in Blackboard. Access the trainings by logging in to Blackboard using your official NIU credentials. The trainings are accessible under Organizations in the left navigation.

The deadline for annual ethics training is Friday, Oct. 30 and the deadline for cybersecurity training is Saturday, Oct. 31.

LinkedIn Learning subscription to expire on Oct. 26
NIU’s subscription to the LinkedIn Learning professional development platform will expire on Oct. 26, 2020. Due to budgetary restraints, NIU will not be renewing the license beyond Oct. 26.

 

If you are taking LinkedIn Learning courses for professional development, you should complete those courses before the expiration date. If you utilize LinkedIn Learning content in your academic courses, you will need to find or create alternative content to replace it. If you need assistance identifying alternative options, please reach out to the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning or your subject specialist Librarian within University Libraries.

Ellington’s meals available at The Depot

The HOSP 320 teams are working incredibly hard to bring Ellington’s to The Depot.  As part of their course requirements, students are responsible for planning, preparing and serving prepackaged meals, each centered on a unique theme. Students are dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious food, as well as compliance with the highest safety and sanitation standards. Meals will be made available for purchase Tuesdays and Thursdays around noon for the price of $7.99.  Your support is very much appreciated!

Graduate School seeks nominations for Honorary Doctoral Degrees
Nominations for honorary doctoral degrees to be awarded from Northern Illinois University are now being accepted.

 

Awarding an honorary degree is an opportunity for the university to recognize someone especially outstanding in a field of interest to the university. It is necessary, though not sufficient, for a nominee to be accomplished and renowned in their field; an honorary-degree recipient should be clearly exceptional among other outstanding persons in that field. Duke Ellington performs last concert of his life in HSC Ballroom (1974)
Edward Kennedy Ellington, better known as Duke, played the last full concert of his 75-year life as the highlight of NIU’s 75th anniversary celebration in 1974.

Battling both lung cancer and pneumonia, Ellington and his jazz orchestra nonetheless delighted a capacity crowd in the University Center (now HSC) ballroom on March 20, 1974. Learn more about Duke Ellington's last performance >
