Keep Teaching

A variety of circumstances might require you to teach your class remotely with minimal notice: a campus closure, increased absenteeism during a flu outbreak, a family emergency requiring your presence elsewhere, etc. This guide will provide you with some actions to take when making that shift quickly. The practices highlighted are designed to be simple and straightforward to learn or implement quickly and with limited technology.

Flexible Teaching Guides and Resources

As described in the Fall 2020 "Protecting the Pack" Plan, NIU will offer a mix of fully online, face-to-face and hybrid courses when classes begin in August. The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) supports NIU faculty as they design and develop courses that can be successful in any mode of delivery. We are committed to helping you create the most resilient, effective courses possible. We are calling this effort “flexible teaching,” and have developed a new resource at flexteaching.niu.edu to support the NIU teaching community.

Learn more about the guiding principles of Flexible Teaching and how it differs from the emergency remote teaching effort undertaken this spring.

We invite you to review Flexible Teaching blueprints for ideas of what Flexible Teaching could look like in your course as well as the available Flexible Teaching Guides:
