Student Health Insurance Plan

NIU offers its students a health insurance plan that protects students at school, at home, and while traveling or studying abroad.

Beginning fall 2012, the NIU Student Health Insurance plan will be underwritten by United HealthCare Student Resources.  

New covered benefits will include:

• Preventive services – covered 100% with no copy or coinsurance up to $100,000.  This includes immunizations, Pap test, Well-care
  
  
• Allergy – office visits, testing and shots will be covered at 80% co-insurance
  
  
• Physical Therapy – covered with no limit
  
  
• Chiropractic care – covered with no limit
  
  
• Birth control – all forms covered 100% (if a generic brand is available and the student chooses the Brand Name version, a $20 copay will apply).   A claim form will be required to receive reimbursement if purchased outside of NIU Health Services.

Enrollment in the plan is automatic for students registered for 9 or more on campus hours and for all international students.  Student’s who register for at least 6 hours on or off campus, may enroll in the plan by completing an enrollment form.
