Speaker of the Senate

Speaker James Zanayed was elected to his current position December 3rd 2012.  His past Senatorial experiences include being a member of the mass transit board and Chairman of the Greek Affairs and Campus Life Committee.

As a graduate of Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois, Speaker Zanayed came to NIU looking to make a difference.  He joined Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity his first year. By his sophomore year he joined the DeKalb Mayor’s Housing Task Force. The task force discussed many issues, most notably, safety for the students living off campus.  The Task Force brought extra lighting to the streets of the Northwest Corridor.

Speaker Zanayed is currently working on many different committees representing students every day.  He believes that student voices must be heard and adequately represented.
