Northern Illinois University is closely monitoring the Ebola outbreak in several nations in western Africa. At present, no immediate threat to our campus has been identified. The NIU Health Services staff are receiving bulletins from the Centers for Disease Control and the Illinois Department of Public Health related to Ebola and will distribute any necessary information and guidance, as it is known, through campus communication channels. NIU Health Services staff continuously monitor any and all infectious diseases, including Ebola. Specific infection control systems are in place.
As in any situation, students who need medical attention should call 911 for an emergency, or contact Health Services for non-emergency care at (815) 753-1311.
By November 14, 2014, the Division of International Affairs will decide whether to approve or cancel the NIU study abroad program tentatively planned for Sierra Leone for summer 2015, as well as one tentatively planned for Ghana for the same term.
