Teacher Licensure Program - NIU - Foreign Language and Literatures

Teacher Licensure

Teacher Licensure Program

The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures prepares students to become licensed teachers in French, German or Spanish (K-12). Students pursuing teacher licensure must have a strong academic record and demonstrate the desire and ability to facilitate learning.

Teacher licensure students major in French, German, or Spanish and take additional coursework which has been designed to meet the standards of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).  At NIU, teacher licensure students enjoy small classes, personal attention, and lots of hands-on teaching experience.

Interested students should contact either the program director, Karen Lichtman (klichtman@niu.edu / fltcert@niu.edu, Watson Hall 112, 815-753-6443) or the assistant director, Peggy Durbala (pdurbala@niu.edu, Watson Hall 114, 815-753-6449).
