How to Apply For Financial Aid
Applying for student financial aid can be a very overwhelming experience. Please use this webpage as a resource. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
- Obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the U.S. Department of Education (if you don't already have one).
- This PIN is used when filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), regardless of what university you are planning to attend, or how many universities you are applying to.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- This application is available online and in both English and Spanish.
- Make sure to enter NIU's School Code as 001737
- Once the FAFSA has been completed, you will hear back about what types of Student Aid you are eligible for.
- Make sure to check your application status for more information regarding what types of aid you are eligible for as well as different types of forms you might have to complete in addition to the FAFSA.
