The emphasis in costume design focuses on the creative storytelling process through the visual, three-dimensional medium of personal adornment. The program teaches skills and techniques in research, collaboration, and visual communication designed to connect artist, story, character, and the human form. Instruction in general and advanced design each semester is supplemented with work in drawing and painting, historical and cultural research, and advanced skills in costume technology including flat patterning, draping, millinery, accessories and fabric modification.
Opportunities for design and practical technical skills are provided on campus through at least three fully produced public School productions and off campus with professional employment opportunities with theatres across the country.
