Help Researchers Learn More About Student Inclusion |
Researchers at Northern Illinois University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore are conducting a study about how college students respond to social situations involving their peers. Students age 18 and older are invited to complete a confidential online survey that takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Participation is voluntary, and you may stop the survey at any time without penalty. While there is no direct benefit for participating, your responses may help researchers better understand social behavior, empathy and inclusion among college students. Some survey questions include language that reflects a range of societal attitudes and may be uncomfortable for some participants. You may skip any question you do not wish to answer. No identifying information will be collected, and your responses cannot be linked to you. By completing the survey, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and agree to participate in the study.

My favorite spot on campus is the Holmes Student Center. I like going there to grab food and Starbucks. My friends and I hang out in the Huskie Den to play pool, too. It is a relaxing, chill space where I can relax and have fun with friends. |
|
|
|
|
Don't rush through college just to get to whatever you think is supposed to come next. Take the time to explore, get involved, try things, meet people and figure out what you actually enjoy and what you're good at. Some of the most valuable experiences you have at NIU may have nothing to do with what you originally thought you were going to do. Use the resources that are here for you and ask for help before you're completely overwhelmed. Go to office hours. Talk to your advisor. Visit Career Services. Join an organization. Apply for opportunities even if you're not completely sure you're qualified.

There are a lot of people at NIU whose entire job is to help you succeed — use us! And give yourself permission to change the plan. Changing your major, your career goal or your timeline isn't failing. Sometimes it means you've learned enough about yourself to make a better decision. Your goal shouldn't be to follow the "perfect" college path. It should be to leave NIU knowing yourself better, having taken advantage of the opportunities available to you and feeling confident about whatever comes next.
